Bon Appetit

Yes I know this is the French word meaning Enjoy your meal and this entry has nothing to do with French Cuisine. But this is what came to Eli’s mind after I took him to Wasabi’s (a Japanese steakhouse) Thursday night. My absolutely favorite place to eat, but I have not taken him because when he was 2 years old, we tried this at a similar place in WV and he cried the whole night, scared of the fire and smoke and wouldn’t eat a bite or hardly let anyone else eat. Some girls from work decided to go to Wasabi’s for one of the girls birthday. I had my mind made up that I was not going to go, even though I love the place. I would have Eli and it wouldn’t be worth the hassle. Well the girls talked me into bringing him and said it would be fine. So I talked to Eli about it one day earlier in the week and asked him if he remembered going to eat at the place with fire when he was a baby and being scared. He recalled that “the cooker” wore a hat, and he remembered the fire as being scary, just as I figured. I asked him if he thought he could be brave and try to go again. He thought about it for a moment then replied Today? And I said no, on Thursday, Do you think you could be brave and go? He then tells me he would be brave on Monday. So I left that one alone for the night. The next day he told Trevor that he was a little nervous but he was going to go eat with Mommy at “Sabi’s.” He also told his daycare teacher that we was going out to eat where they throw steak at you. So off we go to “Sabi’s” for an evening of fun. He was a little scared of the fire but he worked past it and had a great time. I was so glad that I gave in and took him. He only wanted to eat shrimp, but he ate very good and enjoyed the entertainment. So much that I took him to get this chef hat as promised since he was so good. The next morning we decorated the hat and with the help of a spatula from my kitchen and paper plate, he recreated the fun in our living room. He used his train table as the Hibachi grill and even juggled for me. I think we will return soon for another visit. In the car on the way home he kept saying to me "Mom, I need to tell you something" and I would say "What?" He then would say in a high voice "Bon Appetit" and giggle. Oh yeah P.S. He ate his entire meal with chop sticks and never missed a beat, Maybe he was born to eat it. I did crave it the entire time I was pregnant with him. Posted by Picasa

LOVE your little chef! Who knows - maybe you have started something great...it would be nice to have a chef in the 'family.'
